Presidio de los Reyes is a remote Cora Indigenous community in the Sierra Madre mountains of Nayarit, Mexico. More than 96 percent of residents speak the Cora language, making it one of the last strongholds of this living culture. Coffee here is grown in small forest plots called parcelas under a communal land system that protects shared territory and prevents privatization.
These shaded farms support both traditional livelihoods and healthy forest habitat for migratory birds. We are proud to roast coffee from Presidio de los Reyes and support a community that protects language, land, and biodiversity.

Feature Species: Black-throated Magpie-Jay Cyanocorax colliei

The black-throated magpie-jay is a striking and intelligent bird native to the dry forests and coastal foothills of western Mexico, especially in Nayarit, Jalisco, and Sinaloa. With its long elegant tail, vivid blue plumage, and social behavior, it is an iconic species of the region. More than a beautiful bird, it plays an important ecological role in seed dispersal and forest regeneration, helping maintain the health and diversity of tropical dry forest ecosystems. As human development continues to fragment habitat along the Pacific slope, the presence of this species signals the resilience of connected landscapes where wildlife, agriculture, and people still share space.
